The name “Spiti” means “The Middle Land”, i.e. the land between Tibet and India. Spiti valley is a research and cultural centre for Buddhists include Key Monastery and Tabo Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in the world and a favourite of the Dalai Lama Spiti Valley is a cold desert mountain valley located high in the Himalayas in the north-eastern part of the northern Indian state.
Kaza is overlooked by high mountains on all sides. It has two access points one from Lahaul valley and the other from the Kinnaur valley.
Tabo is a small town the town lies on the road between Rekong Peo and Kaza. This town surrounds a Buddhist monastery which, according to legend, is said to be over a thousand years old, there are a few hotels in Tabo. Mobile phone networks don’t work well in Spiti Valley, excepting BSNL network.
