The city of Sangrur is the headquarters of the Sangrur district of Punjab, which is bordered by Ludhiana, Moga, Bathinda and Patiala districts of the state and by Hissar District of Haryana. Owing to the presence of around twenty gurdwaras, Sangrur is also known as the ‘City of Gurdwaras’. About eighteen km from Sangrur in Kanjhla village is located Gurdwara Nanak Jhira Sahib. Guru Nanak Dev Ji resided here for some time during the time of his first preaching tour (Udashi). Even Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji stayed here for some time and during his stay, he cured the village people suffering from leprosy. The gurdwara can be reached after half an hour drive from Sangrur. Akoi Sahib gurdwara is located on Malerkotla-Sangrur Road in the village named Akoi. The place is blessed as it is said to have been visited by the first Guru- Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, sixth Guru-Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, and the ninth Guru- Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. \n\nSheesh Mahal (also called ‘the palace of mirrors’) has beautiful mirror work adorning the walls of the palace. Captivating gardens, beautiful fountains and terraces add to the beauty of the place. Originally constructed in 1845 by Maharaja Narinder Singh, the beautiful mahal later served as the home of the Nawab of Malerkotla.
