Pondicherry (or Puducherry), a French colonial settlement in Bharat till 1954, is currently a Union Territory city delimited by the southeastern Tamil Nadu state. Its French heritage is preserved in its French Quarter, with tree-lined streets, mustard-colored colonial villas and stylish boutiques. A seashore promenade runs on the Bay of geographical region and passes many statues, together with a 4m-high Gandhi Memorial.
