Itinerary

Day 01: Bangalore - Somanthpura - Mysore

Morning pickup from Bangalore and proceed to Somnathpura. Somanathpura is famous for the Chennakesava Temple constructed by Soma, a commander in 1268 CE under Hoysala king Narasimha III, during the Hoysalas were the major power in South India. The Chennakesava temple is one of the masterpieces of Hoysala architecture and is in a very well preserved condition. The temple is in the care of the Archeological Survey of India as a protected heritage. Then proceed to Mysore. On arrival at Mysore, check in to the hotel and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 02: Mysore - Halebid - Belur - Hassan

On the second day morning, after breakfast, check out the hotel and proceed to Halebid. Halebid literally means ruined city because it was ruined twice by the Bahmani Sultanate. Halebidu was previously called as Dwarasamudra and it was the regal capital of the Hoysala Empire in the 12th century. Halebidu is home to one of the best examples of Hoysala architecture in the ornate Hoysaleswara and Kedareswara temples.

Then proceed to Belur, a town popular for its Chennakeshava temple. The Chennakeshava Temple at Belur is one of the finest examples of Hoysala workmanship. The main attraction in Belur is the Chennakesava temple complex which contains the Chennakesava Temple (Vishnu) as the centerpiece, surrounded by the Kappe Chennigraya temple built by Shantaladevi, queen of king Vishnuvardhana. Then proceed to Hassan, on arrival at Hassan, check in to the hotel and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 03: Hassan - Kaidala - Bangalore

The morning after breakfast, check out the hotel and proceed to Kaidala. Kaidala hosts two exquisite temples sculpted by Jakanachari. Kaidala is famous for a small Dravidian style Kaidala Chennakeshava Temple built in 1150 and Gangadareshwara Shrine. Jakanachari, the master sculptor was born and brought up at Kaidala. It was Jakanachari who sculptured the famous Somnathpura, Belur and Halebedu temples. The sprawling monolithic black-granite image of Lord Chennakeshava is about 5.5 ft tall and is installed on a 2.5 feet high pedestal. The ten incarnations of Vishnu are carved on the Prabhavali (representation of aura). Strikingly beautiful images of Sri Devi and Bhoo Devi - two consorts of Lord Chennakeshava - flank the main image in the sanctum. There are no words to describe the beauty of the lord and all credits goes to the work done by master sculptor Jakanachari. Then proceed to Bangalore, on arrival at Bangalore, transfer to the railway station for onward journey.
