The Bhimbetka rock shelters are an archaeological site in central India that spans the prehistoric paleolithic and mesolithic periods, as well as the historic period. It exhibits the earliest traces of human life on the Indian subcontinent and evidence of Stone Age starting at the site in Acheulian times. Bhimbetka is adorned with the accolade of being the richest depository of prehistoric paintings, in South Asia. It is the twenty-second place in India, which is declared as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. It is famous for Bhimbetka Caves and Bhimbetka Rock Shelters. Bhimbetka caves depict the early stage traces of human life in India. Archeologists are in the opinion that these caves might have been used for shelter over 1000 years ago.
