Jorhat lies along a tributary of the Brahmaputra River, about 30 miles (50 km) southwest of Sibsagar. Jorhat is s a city and one of the important urban centers in the state of Assam in India. Jorhat, from where you will take a boat ride in an individually hired local boat to reach Majuli. Majuli is a hub of the Assamese neo-Vaishnavite culture, initiated around the 15th century by the revered Assamese saint Srimanta Sankardeva and his disciple Madhavdeva. In Majuli you can visit different Vaishnavite Satras with our guide taking you through the culture and history of the region. Also, unique to the Island is the art of mask making, a traditional craft only found here, especially in Samaguri Sattra. These masks are an integral part of the Satriya culture. Made of clay, bamboo, cloth, etc.
On arrival Jorhat airport transfer to the hotel. Afternoon free. Overnight at Jorhat.
After breakfast proceeds to Majuli, the world’s largest river island situated in the midst of the river Brahmaputra. You will be transferred to Nimati ghat, near Jorhat, from where
you will take a boat ride in an individually hired local boat to reach Majuli. Majuli is a hub of the Assamese neo-Vaishnavite culture, initiated around the 15th century by the
revered Assamese saint Srimanta Sankardeva and his disciple Madhavdeva. Overnight in Majuli guesthouse / Missing style house.
After breakfast, visit different Vaishnavite Satras with our guide taking you through the culture and history of the region. Also, unique to the Island is the art of mask making, a
traditional craft only found here, especially in Samaguri Sattra. These masks are an integral part of the Satriya culture. Made of clay, bamboo, cloth, etc., they are lightweight and depict characters of the Mahabharata, Ramayana, and the Puranas. Later trek to a Missing Village where the people reside in ‘Chang Ghar’, houses built with raised
bamboo platforms. The village women are adept weavers and you can witness them weaving exclusive motifs on their ‘That-xaal’ (looms). Overnight at Majuli.
After Breakfast check out and cross the Brahmaputra river in a country ferry. Later board your vehicle and drive to Jorhat Airport. TOUR ENDS HERE WITH SWEET MEMORIES.
