The dam is built on the Betwa River and its reservoir, which is a placid stretch of water and runs to Nougat Bridge. Being the primary source of water for drinking and agricultural purposes of Jhansi, it also has a thermal plant that generates 1149 MW power. Many reservoirs, canals, and dams have been built on River Betwa, one among which is the Parichha Dam.
