Meghalaya is the northeastern state of India The Sanskrit meaning of Meghalaya means ``the abode of clouds`` . The state is covered with high mountains and scenery vallies. Shiling is the capital of Meghalaya. The state is covered with lush forests, pines, sals, and bamboo trees. The state is the house of many Tibeto-Burman (Garos) or Mon-Khmer Khasis. English and Assamese are sate’s official languages. Other languages spoken in the state include are Nepali, Haijong, Bengali, Assamese, and Hindi. Meghalaya is rich in tribal culture The state has a rich and prestige culture. People like drinking and dancing on religious ceremonies, social functions, and marriages in their traditional costumes.
