Andaman and Nicobar Islands belong to one of the union territories of India. The name is often shortened to A & N Islands, or ANI. These islands are in the Indian Ocean, in the southern part of the Bay of Bengal. The capital of this territory is an Andamanese town of Port Blair. The Andaman Islands are in Indian archipelagoes in the Bay of Bengal. At roughly 300 islands are known for their palm-lined, white-sand beaches, mangroves and tropical rainforests. The Coral reefs supporting marine life such as sharks and rays make for popular diving and snorkeling sites. The Indigenous Andaman Islanders inhabit the more remote islands, many of which are off-limits to visitors.
